Jack & Mary Burt

Third generation owners/operators of the Burt Family Farm, together they started Shady Oaks Red Farm in 1988 and utilized Red Angus bulls in their commercial cowherd. 

​

As their children became active in 4H, the family began to purchased Red Angus females, and by the mid 1990s, the cowherd completely transitioned to purebred Red Angus genetics.

​

Today, Jack and Mary are both retired and manage day-to-day operations.

Eric Mousel

Growing up near Hastings, NE, Eric brings a strong commercial cowman approach to raising cattle. He has a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in agronomy and has taught range and ranch management courses.

​

Eric works for the University of Minnesota Extension as a Beef Cattle Specialist based at the North Central Research & Outreach Center in Grand Rapids, MN.

Alaina Mousel

Alaina handles all of the data management, social media and artificial insemination work on the farm. 

​

When not working on the farm, or running kids to activities, Alaina works as a research assistant in agronomy at the North Central Research & Outreach Center.

Katie, Jack & June

The next generation of cow kids at Shady Oaks Farm. They are good at watching gates, filling buckets and recording numbers chute-side.
